General linear methods are the natural generalisation of bothRunge-Kutta methods and linear multistep methods. Included in thislarge class of methods there exist special cases which have manyadvantages over traditional methods. In particular we will discussmethods with a special property known as “inherent Runge–Kuttastability”.

John Charles Butcher 教授简介

J．C．Butcher 教授主要从事常微分方程数值积分理论和方法研究，是国际上该领域最杰出的工作者之一，他的许多工作如rootedtrees和B-Series理论在该领域具有里程碑式的意义，并且广泛应用于计算机理论，同时应用于现代科技和科学研究中出现的许多问题。已经发表130多篇学术论文，出版专著《NumericalMethods for Ordinary DifferentialEquations》。1980年当选为新西兰皇家科学院院士，1991年获得新西兰气象（NZMS）研究奖，1996年获Hector奖章，1998年成为NZMS终身会员，1999年当选为新西兰数学学会会员，2003年获得计算数学领域ICCMSE奖，2008 年获得欧洲社会计算和应用数学荣誉院士。
