Generative AI is reshaping software development far beyond code generation. This talk examines how software engineering is becoming more communication-driven, as specifying intent, requirements, design rationale, and quality expectations grows as important as implementation itself. Burak Turhan explores how GenAI is expanding across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and architecture to documentation, testing, review, and deployment, and why the next wave of progress will depend less on standalone tools than on workflow integration, governance, and organisational learning.More fundamentally, the lecture argues that GenAI is not just changing how software is built, but what software development is. The key question is no longer whether AI can assist developers, but how teams and organisations must redesign their workflows, roles, and practices as software becomes increasingly shaped through human–AI collaboration.
